Zero Emissions Day was established on 21st September in Nova Scotia, Canada in 2008 with the idea to give the world a break from fossil fuels and to raise awareness about the harm caused by carbon emissions.
Multiple sources (IPCC Special Report, EASAC, NAS) say that we need to reduce our emissions as much as humanly possible in order to halt or reduce the current course of climate change. But they state that we must also remove historic CO₂ from the air in order to achieve net-zero. Join our movement and make the small changes which contribute to making the world a better place.
Go car-free for the day and walk or cycle rather wherever possible.
Try avoiding single-use plastic and paper products and repair existing items.
You can recycle almost all products - collect your waste and take a trip to the recycling center.
Using our carbon footprint tool, you can calculate your daily emissions and remove them from the air.
Your daily carbon footprint is partly determined by your location and is dependent on your lifestyle. Check out the daily footprint of an average person in your country and simply order the amount of CO₂ you want to remove.
Zero Emissions Day is a great start, but why stop at one day? You can also remove other unavoidable emissions from your daily lifestyle by subscribing to our carbon dioxide removal service and becoming a climate Pioneer.
Simply choose the level of CO₂ removal on a monthly basis and at the end of each year we’ll confirm the amount of CO₂ removed in your name. Join our journey to a climate-positive world by taking climate-positive action.

View terms and conditions for Climeworks CDR services
Climeworks develops, builds and operates direct air capture (DAC) machines which physically capture CO₂ from the air using direct air capture technology. One of two things happens to the Climeworks air-captured carbon dioxide: either it is returned to earth, stored safely and permanently away for millions of years, or it is upcycled into climate-friendly products such as carbon-neutral fuels and materials.
