Climeworks establishes Canadian headquarters in Calgary

Calgary, Alberta, February 20, 2026 — Climeworks, a global leader in commercial carbon removal, has established its Canadian headquarters at Calgary’s ETC, one of Alberta’s leading hubs where startups, researchers, investors, and industry leaders unite to accelerate energy innovation. Several Climeworks employees are already working from the ETC, with additional local hiring expected.

Climeworks selected Calgary for its Canadian headquarters due to the city and province’s expertise in carbon management, established infrastructure, and supportive regulatory environment. As a next step, Climeworks will work with partners on the ground to select a site for local cold weather testing. Climeworks’ mobile test facility is expected to start operations and begin gathering real-time performance data in Fall 2026, a key milestone ahead of building a larger-scale commercial direct air capture plant.

“We’re excited to establish our Canadian headquarters at the ETC in Calgary,” said Colum Furey, Canada Country Director at Climeworks. “Alberta’s world-class carbon capture ecosystem, combined with a supportive policy framework, makes this a natural place for us to scale. Calgary, in particular, brings together the infrastructure, supply chains and expertise we need in one place.”

“Being based at the ETC allows us to closely collaborate with industry, research, and technology partners, helping us learn faster and scale more efficiently,” Furey added. “That acceleration is essential as carbon removal transitions from early deployment toward global scale.”

“We are happy to welcome Climeworks to the ETC, reinforcing Calgary’s role as a leading hub for energy and carbon management innovation,” said Nannette Ho-Covernton, Executive Director of the ETC Foundation.  “Their commitment to scaling engineered solutions aligns perfectly with our mission here at the ETC to foster and accelerate energy innovation and drive the development and commercialization of transformative energy technologies. With Climeworks on board, we look forward to a dynamic collaboration, connecting their expertise with our ecosystem of partners and members.”

"Climeworks’ arrival in Calgary is a testament to the incentives, infrastructure and technical expertise Alberta has to offer. The province’s policy and regulatory environment continues to draw international attention, making Alberta an ideal place for innovative companies in the carbon management ecosystem. Their presence will help deepen collaborations across industry, innovators, and researchers as we work to advance technologies from concept to deployment,” said Breanne O'Reilly, Chief Operating Officer, International CCS Knowledge Centre.

“Alberta is emerging as one of the best places in the world to deploy carbon removal, and announcements like this further demonstrate that potential. A thriving carbon removal sector will be an economic driver for Canada's economy and attracting international investment. We are excited to see leading carbon removal companies choosing Alberta and join the Canadian carbon removal community!” said Na'im Merchant, Co-founder and Executive Director, Carbon Removal Canada.
