Accelerating the scale-up of carbon removal
At Climeworks, we are setting the standard for Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology with groundbreaking facilities that actively remove CO₂ from the atmosphere. Our journey began with Capricorn, our pilot plant in Zurich, Switzerland, and has since expanded to include milestone projects like Orca and Mammoth in Iceland—pioneering facilities that showcase the scalability of DAC.
With the recent inauguration of Mammoth, the world’s largest DAC and storage plant, and plans underway for our next major facility, Cypress, in Louisiana, we are accelerating the global scale-up of carbon removal to meet the growing urgency of the climate crisis.
Explore the evolution of our DAC technology and learn more about each plant’s unique features as we continue to build solutions that deliver measurable and permanent impact.
Our operational and future plants
On September 8, 2021, we launched Orca, the world’s first and largest direct air capture and storage plant, making carbon dioxide removal on a large scale a reality.
On June 28, 2022, we broke ground on our second commercial direct air capture and storage plant. Located in Iceland, Mammoth is about ten times bigger than its predecessor plant.
Located in Louisiana, Cypress will be our first commercial DAC+S plant in the United States, designed to significantly scale up carbon removal capacity and bring DAC technology closer to key markets.
