Meet Jeff, a renewable energy professional from Canada who has cut back on flying but still must fly occasionally
Jeff says:
“I became a Climeworks Pioneer in 2022 for two reasons: remove CO₂ from my business flights and remove CO₂ from my personal travel. In the past, I did a lot of flying and the climate impact from all this had become a blind spot for me. All the other ways I was trying to live a climate-friendly lifestyle were basically getting blown up due to all the flying I was doing. I didn't want to have that kind of negative climate impact anymore. I had done carbon offsets for a few years prior to 2022 but had grown unhappy with offsets. So, I reduced the amount of flying I was doing but still had to fly occasionally. I wanted to neutralize the flight emissions I did produce, do something more permanent, that had real science behind it, and that had auditable accountability. Climeworks is where it's at..’
If you aspire to live responsibly in other aspects of your life, why wouldn't you want to be responsible for your flight CO₂ emissions too?
Vision for the future:
Jeff envisions a world where everyone removes the CO₂ they emit when they choose to fly somewhere. It becomes a no-brainer. It becomes part of the calculus of "can I afford to fly there?" where it is considered irresponsible and unacceptable to fly without removing the CO₂. Just like leaving your garbage in the middle of a park after a picnic is really just not acceptable.
Jeff summarizes his motivations as:

Jeff lives in a major city in Western Canada and does this thinking of all layers of society at once: his family, his kids, his business, the world and future generations.
