The 4th edition took place on June 6 2023 in Zurich and online — a platform to inspire, connect and act on carbon removal
Carbon removals and direct air capture are at a turning point. Guided by climate science, the need to permanently remove CO₂ from the air, in addition to drastic emissions reductions, has reached a new level of attention from governments, media, and businesses throughout the past months. However, the marathon to build a carbon removal industry that successfully operates at gigaton scale has only just begun.
We strongly believe in the need to scale solutions that are net-negative, additional, verifiable, and combined with durable storage. These quality criteria have always been at the core of Climeworks’ mission, and they took center stage at this year’s summit on June 6.
At the Climeworks Direct Air Capture Summit 2023 we heard from experts on the science and economics of direct air capture, discussed the role of corporations and governments and confirmed the importance of environmental justice and community engagement in scaling high-quality carbon removal solutions.
